Initiative

Our City Council is under increased pressure to come up with more money to fund gaps in funding while providing services. Much of this could be done by going to the voters, but the City Council did not ask for bond money to fix up neglected park buildings, or build a branch library. Instead, they took the easy way out with short-term, short-sighted sales, and other transfers of public land to get the money. Once public land is gone – it’s gone forever!
A new tool is needed. If the City Council can make a case for the sale/lease of parks etc., they can take it to the voters and if the case is good, voters will approve by 50% +1 (not a super-majority) at a General Election.
Public Lands are at Risk now more than ever.
