Why is a Chicago-based super-PAC spending so much money to defeat a local land measure?


How would you feel if the nation’s second-largest super-PAC pumped money into defeating a Sunnyvale public land measure?

The National Association of Realtors (NAR), has spent $95K to defeat Measure M–so far. It might interest you to know that the NAR is the public policy arm of a large group of real estate developers.

The developers want our land so they can build on it and make profits. They would like to take half of the Civic Center and do high-density development of it.

They want it badly enough that they paid to get four candidates elected. Now they can depend on those council votes when it comes time to vote on land sales. And without Measure M, four votes is all it takes to sell public land in Sunnyvale.

Sunnyvale Special Interest Money

The developer-funded councilmembers all voted to finalize the Raynor facility and parkland sale earlier this year. Special interest money is calculated from legally-required campaign funding disclosures

The developers and their proxies on the city council evidently think you’re not very bright. They think they can continue to elect themselves, and they can continue to vote away your public lands, and that they can count on you remain oblivious to it.

We think they’re wrong about that.
